Author: Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm | A Water-Moon Presentation
Celebrated lushi poem of Scholar-Poet Nguyễn Bỉnh Khiêm of 16th century Vietnam, brought to the Western world in this Water-Moon English Fayland baritone rendition.
One spade, one hoe, one fishing rod,
Wandering free with a lounging mind,
Whatever others choose to pursue in life.
A fool that I am,
I seek a quiet place.
Those who are smart
go to bustling places.
In autumn, feasts on tender bamboo shoots,
And in winter – fresh wild greens.
In spring, bathes in lotus lakes,
And in summer – dips in lily ponds.
When wine arrives,
under the pine shade,
let's enjoy a few drinks.
Look and see
how wealth resembles
a fleeting dream….
…fleeting dream… dream…

Original poem:
Một mai, một cuốc, một cần câu
Thơ thẩn dầu ai vui thú nào
Ta dại, ta tìm nơi vắng vẻ
Người khôn, người đến chốn lao xao
Thu ăn măng trúc, đông ăn giá
Xuân tắm hồ sen, hạ tắm ao
Rượu đến bóng cây ta hãy uống
Nhìn xem phú quý tựa chiêm bao.
