PRETENTIOUS AND DISHONEST IT IS, for an author to construct a celebrated literary monument around a paralyzed, agonizing priest who hides his sin while the woman bears the full, crushing weight of public brand and ostracism alone, making her endure the societal wreckage while he cowers in self-pity.
HYPOCRITE IS ONE who engineers a manipulative narrative to wring out reader sympathy for an unworthy, pathetic coward, pushing the true endurance of the victim into the sideline periphery while crowning the coward with a cheap, deathbed confession that dodges true justice.
To expose this narrative malpractice, this begging-for-empathy deceit, and the despicable hand of Hawthorne himself, I have composed a musical piece, The Scarlet Letter Fraud, capturing the core hypocrisy behind the novel's canonical pedestal.
Song Excerpt:
Ten thousand lines detailing every wrinkle of guilty thought
of a paralyzed priest
who stands mute and watches
while the woman takes the full weight
of the public shame and blame
right on her branded brow.
